When it comes to trends, Millennials have been eyeing the wedding industry and making their intentions known. Now that Millennials are in the general age range of those getting married, industry experts and planners are taking notice and jumping on their trend bandwagons in an effort of securing some of their business. Here are some trends we’ve seen as a result of the Millennials generation.
1. Hashtags
Hashtags at a wedding isn’t just common, it’s expected. Many couples have hashtags developed for the entire length of the planning process so guests attending stag & does, bridal showers, and bachelorette/bachelor parties can contribute pictures leading up to the big day.
2. Rustic weddings
Rustic weddings are something that we’ve seen grow in the most recent years, from shabby chic to country, barns are a big part of this trend and we’re seeing more being hosted in the country than ever before.
3. Mismatched bridesmaid dresses
Ombre bridesmaid dresses, bridesmaid dresses in different silhouettes and patterns are all becoming popular thanks to the millennial generation.
4. DIY / Pinterest
Thanks to Pinterest, DIY or ‘Pinterest-worthy’ weddings and decor are all the rage at Millennial weddings.
5. Colorful wedding dress
Millennials are far from traditionalists which is why it’s not uncommon to see blush, champagne or ivory wedding dresses at today’s weddings.
6. Honeymoon registry
Many Millennials are finding themselves living together long before getting engaged, let alone married. Because of this, many couples already have a pretty established home leading up to their wedding and may not need to register at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Instead, Millennials are registering for contributions towards their honeymoon or memorable experiences.
7. Small weddings
Despite the Millennial desire to be in the spotlight, we’re actually seeing weddings decreasing in size in favor of a more intimate ceremony.
8. Nonreligious ceremonies / Friends as officiants
It’s becoming more and more common for friends to officiate weddings as opposed to having a religious ceremony with a pastor or minister leading the ceremony.
9. Snapchat filters
What would a Millennial wedding be without a custom Snapchat filter? Wedding parties are spending more time making their day memorable for guests by designing custom Snapchat filters for guests to use at the location of the wedding.
10. Bridesmen and groomsladies
It is more common now than ever to see a combination of men and women on either side of the bridal party.
