Whether you’re planning a small event or a large one, the job of an event planner is a stressful one. Here are some tips to help you de-stress while planning your event!
Delegate Smaller Tasks
Delegate tasks to individuals on your team. Trust in their strengths, and enable them to make decisions within their role. Don’t feel bad about handing off responsibilities or tasks – it’ll help you ensure you’re at the top of your game in the long run!
Last Minute Changes
We know that last minute changes are among planners’ biggest stressors. Great event professionals embrace these last minute changes, and work them to their event’s advantage. Be prepared for plans to change and know what to do when they do. Which leads us to…
Always Have a “Plan B”
Let’s say your entertainment gets stuck in traffic – what other entertainment can you pull up in the program so that attendees don’t notice that your entertainment is late or missing? Having a video presentation or exciting announcement from the host can help keep your audience engaged until your entertainment arrives. Having a backup plan will instantly make you feel less stressed because you’ll already know what to do in the worst-case scenarios.
Leave Work at Work
This may not always be possible to do, but it’s important to at least try to give yourself time where you aren’t thinking about work, checking email, replying to clients, or answering the phone unless it’s an emergency. Unplugging and giving yourself the much needed opportunity to breathe and unwind will ensure you’re able to approach the next day with your best self without getting burnt out.
