When reaching out to several vendors for my upcoming wedding, I soon realized that trying to choose a vendor can be overwhelming. Do I choose a vendor based on budget? Reviews? Word of mouth? Here are some tips I uncovered while trying to determine which vendor is right for me and our upcoming wedding.
First Thing’s First
- Schedule appointments with the most sought-after vendors on your consideration list first, such as a popular venue in your area or a photographer who books up two years in advance. Gauge which vendors, if any, out of the pool of candidates you’re considering may fall into this category by having an initial phone call to inquire about their availability so that you can prioritize accordingly.
- It’s important to meet face-to-face, and if that isn’t possible, whether because you’re throwing a destination wedding or you need to book now, then set up a Skype chat.
Who ‘Clicks’ With You?
Determine who fits your vision and your budget. I reached out to two very different DJs – one which promised me a dance party, and one that promised me reliability and experienced wedding DJs. They were both the same price, and at the end of the day, my decision came down to who could fulfill my vision of what I wanted our wedding to be.
Whose Work Do You Like the Best?
If you have the opportunity to, read reviews or attend an event where you can see a sample of the vendor’s work. Once you’ve seen the work in person, or an extensive portfolio, you will have a better idea of whose work you like better.
