In the event you’re having an event catered this holiday season, there are some common blunders you should be sure to avoid.

Not adding Gratuity to Budget

One thing that is sure to set you over budget quickly is forgetting to include a gratuity for catering to your budget. To ensure this doesn’t happen to you, be sure to discuss with your catering company the gratuity requirements and have it written up in your contract so it doesn’t blindside you the day of.

Timing of Delivery

Having food arrive too late can leave guests hungry, but food arriving to early can leave food cold. Ensure you’re timelines are flexible so your guests can eat earlier if necessary or later depending on your anticipated food delivery.

Not including Veggie or Gluten Free

One way to exclude a nice selection of guests who have chosen to show up to your event is to not have a vegetarian or gluten free option. Be sure to find out dietary restrictions prior to ordering all of your food, and ensuring you have a caterer who will be able to accommodate those restrictions when the time comes.

Underestimating the Amount of Food

There’s nothing worse than having too little food at an event – I say that as someone who has been at an event that ran out of food before being able to serve the entire guest list. Ensure your caterer has your guest list well in advance so they are able to accommodate the size and remember – better to have too much than too little!

Being Unaware of Ingredients

Always ensure you have a list of ingredients on hand for those who may have allergies. Peanut allergies and shellfish allergies are no joke, and it’s better to be safe than sorry.
