Green events are becoming more and more popular as time goes on. What is a ‘Green Event’? A green event is an event that’s executed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. This generally involves striving to reduce water and energy usage, waste and greenhouse gas production, and more.

Here are some ways to reduce the environmental impact of your event.

Invitations

Sending out e-vites is a great way to invite your guests without wasting paper. If paper is a must, request paper that is recycled and print with vegetable inks.

Paperless Meetings

It’s easy to reduce the amount of waste generated from your meeting by going paperless. There are many ways to use electronic documents and online tools rather than paper handouts.

Transportation

If a face-to-face meeting isn’t necessary, consider conversing via Skype or conference call. Choose a central location and encourage guests to carpool or take public transportation.

Food and Service

Buy or request organic, locally grown food as much as possible.  Use reusable utensils and dishes, as well as reusable napkins and tablecloths rather than paper.  Serve beverages in containers such as punch bowls or pitchers, and serve condiments in bulk containers rather than individual packets.  Don’t forget to recycle and compost whenever possible.

Sure, planning a green event requires some additional attention to detail, but think of all the good you’ll be doing for the planet and your guests! Have you planned a green event? What challenges did you encounter? Let us know with a comment below!

Happy Planning!
